Set containers on firm, level ground: gravel, asphalt, concrete, or compacted dirt. Soft or water-logged ground can trap the truck and leave the container sitting unevenly, which makes the doors hard to operate. On soft lots, railroad ties or pavers under the corners help.

- Gate width and turning room for a full-size truck
